Dave Taylor

I built my straw bale studio at Takalarup, east of Porongurup in 2003 to pursue my passion for blacksmithing and wood working. I use a combination of traditional forging and woodworking techniques and modern methods to create pieces that bring together the complimentary and elemental materials of wood and wrought iron.

My art includes among other things, works for home adornment, furniture, gates and railings, historical replicas and award winning sculpture.

I strive to instil in my sculpture a sense of movement and whimsy in addition to rendering pieces to a high craftsmanship standard. Recent sculptural works could be described as ‘Steampunk’ marrying natural and fantasy elements.
