Helen Marshall

Helen Marshall is a self-taught artist based in Albany, Western Australia. As a featured member of the Riverfront Gallery, her artworks are a blend of free-motion thread painting, fabric collage, and appliqué, often highlighted by hand-dyed materials. Her pieces capture regional landscapes and seascapes—sometimes with a whimsical twist—as well as flora and fauna. For Helen, fabric and thread serve as a painter’s palette, allowing her to create rich textures and depth through meticulous layering.

While she predominantly works with fabric and thread, Helen also explores mixed media, acrylics, and oil paints in her artistic practice. Her creative work is deeply influenced by the diverse landscapes of
Western Australia, where she has spent most of her childhood and adult life. Her art conveys the serene nostalgia of coastal retreats alongside the untamed beauty of the remote outback. By weaving together a rich tapestry of colour and texture, she transforms the striking essence of the Australian bush into a deeply personal visual story.
