Expressive mark making forms the basis of my work, as I attempt to explore the visual possibilities of abstraction. Each mark becomes a dialogue which is either integrated, destroyed, or held in place to create visual cohesion and confusion.
Creating abstract expressive work is a humbling experience; a torturous journey superimposed with a plethora of experience and memory that has both geographic, remembered, and psychological dimensions to it. My practice is a playful dance with materials that have their own will and want.
Horizons beacon themselves into existence, openings and portals suggest depth, pathways and crossings provide opportunities for scenic passages that guide the eye. Lines are gauged, scratched, dripped and dance in quiet spaces. Suggestive shapes emerge from hard and soft edges. The light offers the promise of hope.
My works are a record of moments in time, captured through visual expression; contemplated, anticipated, and sometimes wrestled into existence.
