Sara Coyne
Kaya (hello), I have always been interested in art, inheriting from my father, a graphic artist, and my mother, a photographer and textile artist, both from England.
My journey began at a very young age, when we travelled around the world. I learnt about different people, colours, smells, and scenery. I enjoyed drafting at High School, becoming an Executive Secretary/Stenographer in Perth for many years. After study and 2 children as a single mother, I started my Architectural Design business in Perth and continued in Margaret River, which was very successful for 18 years (SRD Sara Rawlings Design & Drafting).
Now retired in the Great Southern, a local Denmark artist from my home studio, Pepperwood House Art Studio. My favourite medium is from nature, creating artworks from the sap of the redgum tree, resin, or the jarrah tree, the leaves and bark. Charcoal is a special medium found on many trees also. Most of my art starts as trees, especially showing the beautiful hues of the bark and the many stunning colours of the leaves, to my favourite, the grass trees. My tree art usually ends up as landscapes with other techniques and mediums added, resulting in multi-media. Watercolour & Inks are my preferred medium at the moment. I started felting with alpaca and sheep fleece to bring more colour into my artworks.
I enjoy experimenting with many media. Painting with acrylic, oil, gouache, and watercolour. I need to include ink drawing because I am from an architectural background. I am yet to try the palette knife, but I know I will enjoy it because of its textural method. Over the years, I have learned to play, make time, and enjoy. I tend to get overenthusiastic about art mediums and styles when talking to people and fellow artists. I love making mistakes so that I can create artwork more beautiful than I originally planned.
I have so many artworks in my studio that need to completed but I do love starting new ones.
